E-A-T in SEO stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. This concept is discussed in great detail in Google’s Quality Raters’ Guidelines. Google also recommends it to publishers as a way to measure the quality of their content.

Demonstrating good E-A-T both on and off your website can potentially help improve Google rankings. Google’s own documentation tells us “if you understand how raters learn to assess good content, that might help you improve your own content.”

1. Google values websites that demonstrate expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (E-A-T).

2. E-A-T is determined by a combination of the creator, the content, and the website.

3. E-A-T is especially important for websites that publish YMYL (your money, your life) content.

How does Google determine E-A-T? Now that we’ve answered the question What is E-A-T?, let’s talk about how Google determines the E-A-T of a page. At a high level, there are three primary components listed in the Google search quality evaluator guidelines: -

  1. The expertise of the creator of the Main Content.

  2. The authoritativeness of the creator of the Main Content, the Main Content itself, and the website.

  3. The trustworthiness of the creator of the Main Content, the Main Content itself, and the website.
